Galloping into Spring
Following last year’s sold-out performance, Silk Road Music joyfully returns to the Richmond Gateway Theatre to celebrate the Lunar New Year — the Year of the Horse. This vibrant program embodies renewal, vitality, and the spirit of adventure as we gallop into 2026.
Audiences will be treated to a rich tapestry of sounds: the expressive pipa of Qiu Xia He, the shimmering sheng and bright suona of Zhong Xi Wu, the soulful guitar and oud of André Thibault, and the dynamic percussion of Philip Bélanger. The ensemble also welcomes Karley Yeung, a rising star on the erhu and Cantonese gaohu, whose artistry adds a fresh brilliance to the performance.
With limited seating, we encourage early reservations for this uplifting musical celebration!

Join Silk Road Music on a beautifully vivid journey through the many facets of traditional Chinese music and dance. Meet the ancient 5,000 year old instrument that’s considered to be the grandparent of the accordion and harmonica, dance along to a lively tune, and discover what a horse race and a conversation between birds can sound like when imaginatively translated into music.

This special digital presentation includes both a performance and accompanying workshop that introduces the instruments. All the Chinese players are the faculty of the VSO School of Music. Presented by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts as part of the Roots and Shoots Music Education Program, produced annually as a resource for Vancouver area schools.
